Perks welcomes 2 new directors to its tax and business advisory practice
AppointmentsSouth Australian accounting and wealth advisory firm Perks has appointed a tax consulting director and an accounting and business services director to its corporate, financial, and regulatory environment.
With the recent addition of former Accru Harris Orchard director Richard Bowden (pictured, right) and former Deloitte lead tax partner John Rawson (pictured, left), Adelaide-based accounting and financial services firm Perks says that this reflects its continued investment in senior capability across its tax and business advisory offering.
Bowden has been appointed as the firm’s new director in accounting and business services, and Rawson has been appointed as its new director in tax consulting.
In a statement, the firm’s chief executive, James Black (pictured, centre), said these appointments reflect the firm’s ability to support clients through an increasingly complex financial and strategic environment.
“These appointments demonstrate our ability to attract experienced practitioners who can add value to our business and, importantly, ensure our clients have access to the depth and breadth of advice they need as their business or personal needs evolve,” Black said.
Prior to joining Perks, Bowden was the director of tax and business services at Accru Harris Orchard from mid-July 2010, where he helped clients optimise their tax and financial position of clients, and manage risk exposure.
Bowden is listed on The Tax Institute’s website as a chartered tax adviser, and the site also notes that he is a member of its technical roundtable committees.
“With nearly 30 years’ experience advising private and family-owned businesses, Richard brings a strong focus on structuring, succession planning and delivering clear, commercially grounded advice. His work centres on helping business owners make informed decisions with confidence and clarity,” the Perks website reads.
The firm said that Richard Bowden has expertise in structuring succession planning and delivering practical, commercially grounded client advice.
“Joining Perks allows us to enhance the support we provide to clients, drawing on the strength of the firm’s broader advisory capability while continuing to deliver the personalised service they value,” Bowden said in a statement.
The firm’s latest director in tax consulting, Rawson, has had more than 20 years of experience as the lead tax partner at Deloitte, where he advised a broad client base across a wide range of industries.
“With more than 25 years at the top end of corporate tax advisory, John brings an intentional, outcome-focused approach and his ability to pause before solving – taking the time to uncover the real issue at hand and align solutions to clients’ objectives,” Perks' website reads.
“John is specialised in high-stakes tax matters where structure, timing and judgement matter most.”
The firm added that Rawson specialises in taxation and resolving complex business challenges for public and private organisations.
“His unique skillset has seen him develop a strong interest in the design of remuneration and incentive structures, particularly for private companies seeking to attract, retain and reward key staff.”
“What stood out to me is the opportunity to apply deep technical expertise in a practical advisory environment, where complex tax advice is closely connected to clients’ broader commercial decisions,” Rawson said upon his appointment.
Perk’s recent organisational changes include its promotion of six across its firm in mid-2025, and its appointment of current general manager Lisa Pritchard around the same time, its acquisition of accounting and business services company GPK Holdich in late 2024, the firm's expansion of its paid parental leave scheme to 26 weeks that same year, and its partnership with Frontier Advisors in 2023 to provide the firm with investment research.
