Technology

The Tax Office has begun its public beta rollout of its new online services for tax and BAS agents, which are set to be fully available by the end of the first quarter.

‘Online services for agents’ is the new system agents will use to access services which are currently housed in the tax and BAS agent portals.

As reported last year, the public rollout will occur from now until the end of March this year.

If all goes to plan, the ATO may move from gradual to full rollout prior to March.

The tax and BAS agents portals, marred by technical failures and unplanned outages, have been a major sore point for tax professionals.

The new services were originally slated for release in the first quarter of 2017, but there have been a series of delays, including the mass outages in December 2016.

However, to date, industry bodies and tax agents involved in the private beta testing have told Accountants Daily the new services are an improvement on the existing portals.
