Led by Steve Elsbury, Elsbury Advisory is a small Melbourne-based accounting practice that employs 4 team members, including 2 located offshore. After years of working in practices that used Handisoft and Xero solutions, Steve launched his own practice in 2021 and was keen to take a fresh look at how he was going to run this practice. After reviewing both the Xero and QuickBooks platforms, Steve was convinced QuickBooks was the right choice for his practice.
“I was impressed that my account manager was genuinely interested in helping me find the right solutions for my business rather than just wanting to tell me how good his platform was”, Steve said.

A key differentiator Steve found was LodgeiT’s functionality to import data from a variety of accounting solutions – which suited Steve perfectly as his client base mainly uses QuickBooks Online and Xero.
“Through LodgeiT, it doesn’t matter if I have a client using QuickBooks Online, Xero, Reckon or even MYOB desktop, I can import their data easily. I’m not forced to use one solution with my clients because it doesn’t work with my tax product”, Steve said.
Removing the step to rekey data from the source accounting solution into the required BAS or tax form in LodgeiT has delivered impressive productivity gains for Steve and his team.
“The integration is a huge time saver for us. I would estimate that a job that was taking us up to 3 hours before, now takes us 15 minutes to complete,” Steve said.
Steve appreciates the flexibility to customise reports for his clients especially when needing to consolidate accounts – and he has found the reporting capabilities of QuickBooks Online and LodgeiT more powerful than other platforms the firm has used in the past.
“I like to have consistent reporting across my clients and the reporting in LodgeiT has enabled me to do that. Most tax products tend to do the same thing but the reporting in LodgeiT is probably the key reason I decided on the QuickBooks platform, along with the integration.”
The team at Elsbury Advisory appreciate the fact that they can reach out to QuickBooks for support whenever they need it.
They have found accessing both the QuickBooks and LodgeiT support teams very valuable.
“The support teams have been great. It might have been by coincidence but I recently made a product feature suggestion and two days later, it was updated in the system. I feel you get proper support and it’s great working with a company that’s actually trying to improve the product”.
