Xero fast-tracks software feature launch

Technology

Xero has launched a new payroll feature designed to help accountants and bookkeepers keep track of their clients’ compliance as part of its plan to help businesses through the economic downturn.

The Xero HQ Payroll feature has been designed to help advisers know which clients are set up for Single Touch Payroll (STP) and the “status of those filings”.

It will also give accountants and bookkeepers access to client employee details, timesheets, and leave requests and action items.

The launch comes as the ATO looks to use STP data to pre-populate employee details for those on the JobKeeper program, as well as to keep track of the $1,500 per fortnight payments to employees.

Xero managing director Trent Innes said it has never been more important for accountants and bookkeepers to keep on top of how clients are faring and to ensure compliance.

“Accountants and bookkeepers have always been a central source of support to small businesses navigating challenging economic times — and their skills, experience and advice are now required more than ever,” Mr Innes said.

“As advisers look to support their small-business clients to access government assistance packages like JobKeeper, keep on top of their cash flow and understand their business position, it’s never been more important that they in turn get access to the tools and insights that make digital payroll compliance, across multiple clients, more seamless.”

Xero also said it was working globally on a series of measures to help the small businesses and advisers navigate the COVID-19 crisis, including updates to its product suite, a dedicated customer response team and a Business Continuity Hub.

It also said it remained committed to paying small-business suppliers within 10 working days as a part of these measures.
