Treasury reveals Board of Taxation, TPB chair appointments
TaxTreasury has appointed KPMG partner David Bradbury to chair the Board of Taxation and reappointed Peter de Cure to chair the Tax Practitioners Board.
Peter de Cure will continue to chair the Tax Practitioners Board while KPMG Australia partner David Bradbury will chair the Board of Taxation (BoT), Treasury announced last Friday (27 March).
In a joint statement, Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Assistant Treasurer Daniel Mulino said the appointments would ensure Australia’s tax policy and regulatory system continued to be supported by strong leadership.
“The Government is focused on delivering a fairer, simpler and more sustainable tax system and a robust regulatory framework for tax practitioners to protect taxpayers from misconduct and maintain community confidence in the integrity of the tax system,” Chalmers and Mulino said.
The Treasury ministers praised incoming BoT chair Bradbury’s extensive background in tax policy and administration, spanning both domestic and international experience.
“Bradbury’s appointment will ensure the Board continues to provide a clear and considered tax community perspective when it comes to improving the design and operation of taxation laws. His appointment follows a competitive selection process,” the statement read.
According to Bradbury’s LinkedIn page, he previously worked in the OECD’s tax division for 10 years, as a deputy director and then head of the OECD’s Centre for Tax Policy and Administration. He also worked as an assistant treasurer for the Australian government.
Currently, he chairs ANU’s Tax and Transfer Policy Institute's advisory committee, serves as an honorary professor of taxation at ANU, and is a member of the e61 Institute’s policy advisory committee. He is also a partner in KPMG Australia’s consulting division.
Bradbury’s appointment is set to last three years, until 31 March 2029. He takes the reins from Andrew Mills, who served as the Board of Taxation’s acting chair from 1 October 2025.
TPB chair Peter de Cure has been re-appointed for another three-year term, set to expire on 28 May 2029, Chalmers and Mulino also revealed. He has been a member of the TPB since 2017 and has served as chair since 2023.
“Mr de Cure’s reappointment provides continuity for the Tax Practitioners Board as it works to strengthen integrity, enhance practitioner standards and improve regulatory efficiency,” the joint Treasury statement said.
De Cure also currently holds chair and director roles with the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Accord Property Holdings and Wirra Wirra Vineyards. He was previously a member of the Remuneration Tribunal of South Australia, a body established to determine and review public office holders’ salaries, and chair of the South Australian Fire and Emergency Commission.
