Accounting firms across Australia are struggling with a shortage of qualified staff as Omicron keeps staff away from work and demand continues to rise.

Accounting firms are reporting a capacity crisis, putting even more pressure on accounting partners hoping that the start to 2022 would help them catch up.

A threat of “the great resignation” is adding to an Omicron driven capacity crisis making it tough to just get work done.

With fewer accountants and near record demand for accounting services, including just catching up, accountants are being forced to decide between:-

  • Doing nothing and risk further staff burn out; or
  • Reduce/delay client work; or
  • Increase prices.

Based on the Laws of Economics, these price increases are viewed as low risk, as the industry struggles to meet the demand.

There may be some client churn as you respond to the capacity crisis, but with the right strategies on communicating your value you can make more money working less hours, with a happier team.
