EY's new Qld leader flags future acquisitions

Business

EY’s new Queensland leader, who will take charge following current managing partner Rick Dennis’ departure in July, has said the firm will look to grow through the acquisition of boutique firms.

EY announced the appointment of Paul Laxon, current tax leader for the Brisbane office and tax leader for power, utilities and infrastructure across Oceania, as the firm’s next Queensland managing partner.

Speaking to AccountantsDaily, Mr Laxon said there would be both organic and inorganic growth under his leadership.

“There's (going to be) organic growth but also growth coming through acquisitions,” he said.

“There is a range of opportunities around some boutiques and the like that we are looking at. There are some already in the pipeline now; it’s just a question of how quickly they move through.”

Mr Laxon praised Mr Dennis and former Queensland managing partner Jenny Parker for their work in building a strong Brisbane office positioned for such growth.

“I look forward to building on the great work of both Rick and previous Queensland managing partner Jenny Parker and continuing to expand our Queensland business and give our people even more opportunities to develop their careers.

“The strategy is really to continue the momentum we have got around servicing both our private and public sector clients,” he said.

Tony Johnson, EY Oceania CEO and managing partner, congratulated Mr Laxon on his appointment and declared him well placed to lead the Queensland business.

“With the recent Government change in Queensland, this is an exciting time for business in the region.

“I look forward to watching the continued growth of EY’s Brisbane practice under Paul’s leadership,” Mr Johnson said.
