Accountants dissatisfied with industry bodies

Business

An industry poll has indicated general dissatisfaction among accountants with their professional association membership.

A recent AccountantsDaily straw poll asked “Are you satisfied with your industry body membership?”.

Of the 412 respondents, 322 or 78.1 per cent answered with a firm no.

Ten per cent, or 41 respondents, said yes.

Forty-nine respondents, 11.9 per cent, indicated they are somewhat satisfied with their industry body membership.

The Institute of Public Accountants executive general manager of advocacy and technical, Vicky Stylianou, told AccountantsDaily she was surprised at the result and stressed that the IPA values and regularly acts on member feedback.

“We regularly survey our member base through a variety of different forums,” she said.

She also indicated that in an Association Matters survey, the IPA achieved 83 per cent overall member satisfaction, which is above the benchmark of 79 per cent.

Similarly, a spokesperson for Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand said the organisation surveys members quarterly to ensure its services remain appropriately targeted.

“Although we don’t get it right 100 per cent of the time, we are continually improving our offer to members. One of our main focuses is to prepare our members for the future, and we have invested in new ways of learning, particularly online learning,” the spokesperson said.

AccountantsDaily has asked this question of readers in the past, with similar results – 64 per cent of respondents indicated they weren’t happy with their membership.
