Deloitte has launched a mentoring program for young leaders at youth cancer charity CanTeen as part of a wider corporate partnership program.

The mentoring program will provide young people at CanTeen with access to Deloitte staff in order to further develop their leadership potential and help them prepare for future careers.

Executive sponsor for responsible business at Deloitte and audit leader, Cindy Hook said the leadership skills are of great importance in helping young leaders meet the challenges of the future.

“For our friends and young leaders in CanTeen Australia this means giving them exposure to world-class leadership training via a national mentoring program aimed at developing their leadership potential,” Ms Hook said.

CanTeen helps young people deal with the impact cancer has on their life by providing funding for specialist hospital care, counselling and individual assistance as well as information and highly regarded peer support programs.

CanTeen chief executive Peter Orchard said the charity is passionate about empowerment and is proud to have young people affected by cancer actively involved at all levels of the organisation providing direction, feedback and advice.

“Having young people heavily represented throughout our governance structure, including holding the majority of seats on the board of directors, helps ensure that our services, programs and information effectively meet young people’s needs.

“We’re very excited to be working with our national partner and sponsor Deloitte to deliver the mentoring program and I look forward to seeing Deloitte staff help our young people fulfil their leadership potential.”
