Mackay Goodwin, which was launched just over a decade ago, and has since grown into a national firm with offices in Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne, Perth and Parramatta, is now expanding into the UK.

Its new UK presence has come about through a partnership with SPK Financial Solutions.

This move, the firm said, in a statement, is about being where businesses and their advisers “need the same practical support we provide in Australia”.

“For our Australian professional network, nothing changes. The Australian team remains focused on standing with Australian businesses in the moments that matter.”

The past two years, the firm went on, have been a period of rapid change.

“Coming out of the COVID-19 pandemic, many businesses were still carrying legacy debt and facing new economic pressures, creating an environment where restructuring and insolvency services were in high demand. Mackay Goodwin responded by broadening the ways it could support recovery and growth,” it said.

“In 2024, a dedicated R&D division was established to assist businesses unlock cash flow through the R&D Tax Incentive. Then in 2025, came the MG Academy podcast, a CPD-eligible resource for accountants, lawyers and advisers looking to deepen their understanding of insolvency options and business insights.”

Mackay Goodwin chief executive Domenic Calabretta said: “Every milestone we’ve reached, whether it was a new office, a new service or a new way of sharing knowledge, has been about showing up better for businesses and their advisers.”

“The UK is the next step in that story.”

Speaking to Accountants Daily about the move, Calabretta said: “Opening in the UK is about bringing the same practical support we deliver in Australia to UK directors and advisers.”

“We aim to follow the same ideology of standing with businesses in the moments that matter: expert advice, critical decisions and plans that help businesses turn around from financial distress,” he said.

Looking ahead, the firm said that “while the UK is a big milestone, it won’t be the last”.
