Small and medium businesses across the state are set to receive cash grants of up to $3,000 under a new scheme rolled out by the Marshall government in partnership with the Commonwealth.

Treasurer Josh Frydenberg announced the new jointly funded package for South Australian businesses on Monday, which follows the state’s $3,000 emergency payments offered to SMEs under lockdown in late July.

The new package will see cash grants of $3,000 paid to eligible employing businesses, and $1,000 payments made to non-employing businesses that have experienced a decline in turnover of at least 30 per cent over the two weeks after restrictions were introduced on 28 July.
It also includes a new CBD grant of $1,000, which will be made available to both employing and non-employing businesses with commercial premises in Adelaide’s CBD to shoulder the burden of slowed foot traffic as much of the city continues to work from home.
The support package, which will be paid for in a 50-50 split between the SA and Commonwealth governments, also contains a new Major Events Support Grant, which will offer payments of up to $25,000 to eligible event operators whose events have either been cancelled or suffered major loss as a result of lockdown restrictions.
South Australian Premier Steven Marshall said the new support payments come as part of his government’s strategy to keep his community safe, and its economy strong, as COVID-19 continues to stir disruptions.
“South Australia has recently been recognised as the most liveable state in the nation and our COVID recovery plan is focused on standing shoulder to shoulder with small businesses as we navigate our way out of the global pandemic,” Mr Marshall said.
“South Australians have done an incredible job of working together, and now is the time to continue to pull together to support our hardworking small businesses who are the backbone of the state’s economy.”
Mr Frydenberg said the Morrison government has and will continue to support South Australians as they endure ongoing restrictions.
“The Morrison government recognises that despite the lockdown having ended, ongoing health restrictions continue to have a significant impact on businesses right across the state,” Mr Frydenberg said.
“We will continue to work with the Marshall government to ensure the South Australian economy bounces back from its most recent lockdown.
“Since the start of the pandemic, the Morrison government has delivered more than $9.4 billion to South Australian families and businesses to support them in their time of need.”
Prime Minister Scott Morrison said both the federal and South Australian governments would continue to do what is necessary to equip the state for the challenges mounted by COVID-19.
“We are stepping up to provide more support to South Australian businesses that have been impacted by ongoing COVID-19 restrictions that are keeping the state safe,” Mr Morrison said.
“Already, we have provided more than $40 million to South Australian workers through the COVID-19 Disaster Payment and now we are ramping up our business payments.
“We need to protect jobs and support South Australian businesses to get through this difficult time so they can help drive our economic recovery as we plan our way out of this pandemic.
“Our support has never been ‘set and forget’, and we will continue to work with the Marshall government to ensure our funding reaches those small and medium businesses that need it.”
