BDO Australia has welcomed John Bresolin as a partner in its Sydney audit team and Matthew O’Byrne as a tax partner in its Melbourne office.

Mr Bresolin is no stranger to BDO, having started his career as a cadet in 1987 when it was previously PKF, working his way up to audit partner before leaving for Deloitte Private in 2018.

“John has a long history with our firm, and it was disappointing for us when he left to join Deloitte Private in 2018,” BDO Sydney managing partner Grant Saxon said.

“We’re delighted that John has now come back to the fold, which is a fantastic recognition of BDO’s strong position in the mid-market, our unique culture and approach to client service, as well as the quality of our work.”

Mr Saxon also believes Mr Bresolin’s over 30 years’ experience and expertise across a range of sectors will serve the firm well in a post-COVID-19 environment.

“He brings extensive audit skills and experience dealing with audit committees in the mid-market,” he said. “His expertise will help both existing and new clients tackle what lies ahead in a challenging business environment.”

On the tax front, BDO Melbourne managing partner David Garvey believes Mr O’Byrne’s arrival is well timed as the firm experiences increased demand from family businesses, private companies and high-net-worth clients.

According to BDO, Mr O’Byrne is highly experienced at providing complex tax advice to wealthy families and their private businesses, with a focus on the real estate and retail sectors.

“Tax is a constant growth area for BDO nationally and this growth is being accelerated as businesses navigate their way through COVID-19,” Mr Garvey said.

“Our focus is on ensuring our clients are in the best position to deal with the challenges presented by the COVID-19 crisis, but that they’re also prepared to embrace the opportunities the post-COVID-19 environment will present.

“Matthew has a proven track record building a strong network of high-net-worth clients and advising some of Australia’s wealthiest families and their businesses. BDO looks forward to offering Matthew’s expertise to our current clients, especially those in the real estate and retail sector.”
