A total of 933 Australians have been recognised in this year’s Queen’s Birthday Honours List, including high-profile politicians such as former prime minister Tony Abbott, former NSW premier Mike Baird and former federal politician Bronwyn Bishop.

Five professionals have also made the list this year for their services to the accounting sector, nominated by fellow Australians before being assessed by the Council for the Order of Australia.

In the General Division of the Order of Australia, Ross Ledger of Western Australia has been named as a Member of the Order (AM) for “significant service to the accounting profession, to wildlife conservation, and to the community”.

Mr Ledger has been the managing director of RE Ledger Chartered Accountants since 1990, and was appointed as a life member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) in 2019.

Donald Griffin of Queensland has been recognised with a Medal of the Order (OAM) for “service to the accounting profession, and to athletics”.

Mr Griffin, a CPA Australia Fellow, is the chief executive of Etax Accountants and Etax Local.

Andrew MacNeill has also been recognised with a Medal of the Order (OAM) for “service to tennis, and to the accountancy profession”.

A chartered accountant, Mr MacNeill is a partner at the Melbourne office of SellersMuldoonBenton.

He is a registered liquidator, a member of the Australian Restructuring Insolvency and Turnaround Association, and sits on ASIC’s panel of insolvency practitioners.

Andrew Pierce of New South Wales has also been recognised with a Medal of the Order (OAM) for “service to the community, and to accountancy”.

Mr Pierce, a Chartered Accountant Fellow, was a director at the Centre for Eye Health between 2008 and 2015, and was the president of Guide Dogs NSW/ACT from 2010 to 2012, while holding various roles including director, secretary and treasurer between 1992 and 2010.

John Rudd of NSW has also been recognised with a Medal of the Order (OAM) for “service to veterans and their families, and to accountancy”.

Mr Rudd has been actively involved with charities Sydney Legacy and St George Sutherland Legacy over the last two decades, holding numerous roles including honourary auditor and honourary treasurer.

“In this list, we see all the positives that are in our community — we see the great ideas, we see the hard work, we see the love and compassion for fellow human beings — it’s a microcosm of Australia,” Governor-General David Hurley said.

“This list recognises a group of outstanding Australians who have made a contribution to their community, to Australia globally or domestically. Their efforts have been noted by their peers; they’ve been nominated and assessed independently as worthy of recognition.”
