A big four firm has acquired a local data analytics firm in Brisbane as it looks to boost its analytics and cognitive practice.

Deloitte has announced that the co-owners and 17 staff of Bistech will be joining its Brisbane office from the beginning of April.

Bistech co-owners Shane Morgan, Justin Hoareau and Brad Culbert will be joining Deloitte’s analytics and cognitive practice in leadership positions, with Mr Culbert joining as a partner.

The terms of the acquisition were not revealed by either firm.

Deloitte chief executive Richard Deutsch said the timing was right to welcome Bistech’s capability and experience to the firm’s data modernisation practice.

“As clients increasingly explore shifting their data capabilities to the cloud, businesses are at a tipping point as they adopt more holistic data strategies,” Mr Deutsch said.

“Australia’s data analytics market is expected to deliver the fourth fastest growth rate in the Asia-Pacific, behind China, Indonesia and India.”

Deloitte Brisbane managing partner John Greig said there was significant growth opportunity to use Bistech’s expertise.

“Bistech has a great reputation in Queensland, particularly with clients in the public sector, which complements much of our existing work as we assist the state to diversify its economy for the future,” Mr Greig said.

Mr Morgan said the Bistech team was “incredibly excited and pleased” to be joining Deloitte as it shares the same people values and customer focus, sentiments which were echoed by Mr Hoareau.

“The opportunity for our people and customers going forward is significant,” Mr Hoareau said.

“We are proud to be joining the Deloitte family and working together as a team.”
