My Accounts has appointed Michael Spurr as its new chief operating officer (COO), following his “highly-regarded industry” experience.

Noel Tiufino, chief executive, said the appointment strengthened the company’s management team as it entered the next phase of growth and building out a community of referral accountants around Australia.

“Michael joins the team at a pivotal time for our growing business. We’re excited to welcome Michael and his contribution to our strategic plans for My Accounts,” Tiufino said.

“Our customer base of small-to-medium-sized businesses is part of the engine room of the Australian economy. Our business delivers much of the fuel – the numbers that matter – that helps to power that vital and growing segment.”

Tiufino added that Spurr brought 30 years of experience in senior leadership roles across the accounting and financial services sector, specialising in business growth, operational leadership and strategic transformation.

Having commenced in the role on 2 February, Spurr would focus on scaling operations, strengthening accounting firm partnerships and supporting the company’s growth.

Previously, Spurr worked as CFO of then-listed Count Financial, CEO and managing director of Countplus, and had worked in senior roles within the wealth management division of Commonwealth Bank.

Speaking about his appointment, Spurr said he had joined My Accounts at a time when it was accelerating its national expansion and deepening partnerships, amid growing demand from SMEs for outsourced finance and bookkeeping support.

“Outsourcing is an increasingly important tool for businesses to stay competitive, flexible, and focused on core competencies. My Accounts is a trusted name delivering valued services, and a true partner model to SME businesses.”

“I am excited to join the My Accounts management group to support its continued growth and success.”
