Deloitte Australia has named two additional independent board members, Rufus Black and Kee Wong, both set to serve an initial three-year term.

The big four firm added Black and Wong to its 10-person board following recent updates to its partnership agreement, with the board now consisting of seven elected partner board members, the CEO and two independent board members.

According to Deloitte, the addition of Black and Wong gave the board a 50:50 gender balance and was in line with its 40 per cent women, 40 per cent men and 20 per cent all genders balance commitment.

John Greig, Deloitte Australia chair, said the firm had a robust governance framework and a strong, capable board that adhered to ASX governance principles.

“Having Independent Board members is a forward-looking step that will enhance our governance by bringing external perspectives, broader experience and greater diversity of thought to the board,” he said.

“Evolving our governance reflects the expectations of our clients, the communities we serve and the broader public interest, and aligns with the standards expected by regulators and the market. It’s also what our partners and our people expect as our firm grows in scale, complexity and responsibility.”

The firm said that Black joined the board following his past partnership at McKinsey & Company, his position as a non-executive director on the board of Corrs Chambers Westgarth and years of practical experience.

Black was also noted to be the current vice chancellor and president of the University of Tasmania, with a deep commitment to equity in education and sustainability and to developing the next generation of leaders.

Wong was described to be a highly respected technology partner, entrepreneur, investor and non-executive director with nearly 40 years’ experience across engineering, technology and commerce and currently holds several non-executive director roles in Australia of public listed companies, private businesses and for-purpose organisations.

Greig said Black’s position on the board was effective 1 September 2025, followed by Wong on 1 January 2026.

“We’re delighted with the outstanding calibre of these independent board members. Rufus Black and Kee Wong will bring deep expertise across governance, technology, regulation, innovation, strategy and risk, and we’re confident their perspectives will have a strong, positive impact.”

“The board conducted a rigorous, externally supported search following recent updates to the partnership agreement to provide for independent board members.”
