CA ANZ has named Damian Ogden as group executive of advocacy, public and government affairs to continue the influence and important work of the position.

Ogden was set to succeed the role from Simon Grant on 28 July, who was stepping away from the position into retirement.

Ainslie van Onselen, chief executive, said the appointment followed an extensive executive search and welcomed Ogden to his new role.

“I am excited to welcome Damian Ogden to CA ANZ from Monday, 28 July. Damian brings a wealth of experience to the role, with a strong background in advocacy and strategic leadership in professional membership bodies,” she said.

“He has a proven track record of driving strong policy agendas through targeted government relations strategies which deliver meaningful outcomes for members.”

According to van Onselen, prior to this appointment Ogden was group executive, policy and public affairs at Engineers Australia, before his appointment as group executive of advocacy, public and government affairs at CA ANZ.

Stepping down from his role, Grant was noted by van Onselen to have had a "remarkable" impact on CA ANZ and the accounting profession.

“Since he joined CA ANZ in 2002, Simon has been instrumental in shaping our organisation’s local and international influence.”

“He was pivotal in bringing the global profession to World Congress of Accountants in Sydney in 2018 and he helped assure the successful amalgamation of the Australian and New Zealand professional bodies to create today’s CA ANZ.”

“He has also done exceptional work advising governments on the importance of Chartered Accountants and their role supporting well-functioning economies.”

Speaking about his appointment, Ogden said he was looking forward to beginning his new position at CA ANZ.

“For more than two decades, I have dedicated my career to advocate on issues that are in the national and global interest across complex and varied policy portfolios, and I look forward to bringing my experience to this role with CA ANZ.”

“Accounting plays an essential role in the conception and delivery of major economic reform, and I look forward to engaging with our members, government and other important stakeholders in Australia, New Zealand and across the globe.”
