PwC Australia has appointed Yoshiro Makita as insurance leader for Australia within the firm’s financial services business. Mr Makita joined the Australian partnership, transferring from PwC Japan where he led that firm’s insurance consulting business, specialising in insurance operations and transformation.

As a seasoned insurance expert with 23 years’ experience, Mr Makita has led management consulting engagements for insurers and financial services clients across Japan, Australia, the US and South-East Asia. He has advised on a variety of management agenda including operating model design, separation and integration, digital transformation and insurtech investment.

“We are thrilled to have Yoshiro join the partnership to support the Financial Services practice. Yoshiro brings a wealth of experience to the role and is well positioned to help our clients and the broader industry adapt to the changing landscape,” Tom Gunson, financial services leader at PwC Australia, said.

PwC said Mr Makita brings a skill set that is in extremely high demand in the Australian market and as insurance leader, his focus will be to help insurance clients solve their complex and multifaceted issues. Through an integrated problem-solving approach, he will work with insurance experts across the firm to build trust and deliver sustained outcomes.

“I am delighted to be part of the PwC Australia team and working with our insurance experts across the firm to make a real impact in a fast changing industry. I look forward to leveraging my global experience and expertise to contribute to the growth of the industry and helping our clients respond to changing customer expectations,” Mr Makita said on his appointment.

Mr Makita recognised digital engagement, personalised products and services, and augmented scope of customer relationships through ecosystems will be key to helping solve challenges for clients. He will also focus on improving margins with operating model simplification, pricing improvement and platform modernisation.

“Yoshiro has a fine track record of large engagement delivery for financial services clients throughout Asia, Australia and the US. As the new Insurance Leader, he will challenge himself to continue PwC’s purpose of building trust in society as we solve our clients’ important problems,” Mr Gunson added.
