Government appoints 2 new Board of Taxation members

Appointments

A mid-tier partner and a partner at a global law firm have now been appointed to the Board of Taxation following the departure of two members.

By Jotham Lian 9 minute read

Assistant Treasurer Michael Sukkar on Friday announced the appointment of Tanya Titman and Ian Kellock as part-time members of the Board of Taxation for a three-year period from 12 May 2021.

The new members will replace BDO partner Mark Pizzacalla and KPMG partner Craig Yaxley after their six-year terms expired at the end of last year.

Mrs Titman, a BDO partner and the head of strategic innovation, has 25 years’ experience in working with SMEs in areas such as strategic planning and management accounting.

She founded Acceler8 and is the creator of the BDO for Startups Program and Business Growth Program. Mrs Titman is also a fellow of CPA Australia.

Mr Kellock is a tax partner at Ashurst, specialising in corporate and international tax and focused on taxation of mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructures, financing and other major transactions.

Mr Kellock has over 20 years’ experience in taxation and is a chartered accountant.

The Board of Taxation’s 2019 review of individual tax residency was most recently relied on by the government in its federal budget plan to replace current residency rules with a 183-day bright line test.

The government has also now tapped on the board to examine the dual-agency model administration model for the R&D tax incentive, as it looks to address compliance duplication between the ATO and AusIndustry.
