Mid-tier unveils new private equity national lead

Appointments

A mid-tier firm has appointed a new national leader for its private equity division as it looks to build on its standing in the market.

BDO Australia has appointed Sebastian Stevens as national leader for private equity.

Mr Stevens will be tasked with leading the team in providing a full range of audit, tax and advisory services to private equity firms, portfolio companies, funds and investors.

A CPA fellow, Mr Stevens has been a corporate finance partner in BDO’s Sydney office since 2013.

Mr Stevens said he welcomed the appointment and was proud to be leading the private equity team.

“Now more than ever, there is much more complexity and competition in the private equity space with traditional PE investors as well as technology-focused venture capital and global pension and sovereign wealth funds looking for opportunities,” Mr Stevens said.

“For us, it’s about matching the needs of growing companies as well as helping PE firms find the right deals to deliver the rates of return and growth that they and their funders are looking for.”

BDO Sydney office managing partner Grant Saxon said Mr Stevens’ experience would bring valuable insight to the private equity team.

“Sebastian is an experienced corporate finance professional, having worked on some high-profile PE-backed transactions in recent years, particularly in the US tech sector,” Mr Saxon said.

“The private equity market is a natural fit for BDO, with private equity investment in Australia concentrated around growth businesses and technology companies.

“We have deep relationships within the PE market and our knowledge and experience allows us to understand what motivates PE firms, funds and investors across almost every industry sector of the economy.”
