The Tax Institute has announced the appointment of a new chief executive seven months after the departure of long-serving boss, Noel Rowland.

In a statement released by the Tax Institute, the professional body confirmed the appointment of Giles Hurst in the permanent role of chief executive as of 23 April.
Mr Hurst will take over from interim chief executive Vince Lendrum, who took over the reins when Mr Rowland departed the role in September last year after 19 years of service.
Mr Hurst was most recently a director at Thomson Reuters, working within the tax and legal sectors, and was previously head of retail and business at Westfield.
He spent 10 years based in London with American Express where he led payments and travel related businesses, before moving to Australia in 2004 to help the Australian and New Zealand business navigate regulatory changes in the payments landscape.
Tax Institute president Tracey Rens said Mr Hurst’s appointment followed an “extensive” internal and external executive search process and was looking forward to having him on board.
“With his diverse commercial experience, Giles will bring a fresh set of eyes to the organisation to deliver on our new vision and strategic initiatives,” said Ms Rens.
“Giles is looking forward to meeting with members and working with committees and staff in the months ahead.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to personally acknowledge and thank our interim chief executive Vince Lendrum, who has supported the business through this transition to new leadership.”
The leadership change follows a ‘major strategic review’ by the Tax Institute’s national council and executive team, resulting in a new vision and new strategic objectives.
