Prime Minister Abbott has hailed Australia’s recent Asian trade mission a success after high-level trade talks in Japan, Korea and China ended in the signing of one Free trade Agreement and successfully concluded negations for another.

Combined, the three countries have a population of 1.5 billion people and a GDP of $15 trillion and as such, present enormous opportunities for Australia and Australian businesses.
The main purpose of Prime Minister Abbott’s trade mission was to facilitate increased trade and business cooperation with these nations.

“My hope is that in the years ahead, Australians will see first-hand the benefits of closer, freer trade with Asia – through more jobs, more affordable goods and services and even closer bonds with our North Asian friends and neighbours,” the Prime Minister said.
“In Japan, we successfully concluded negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement”.
“In Korea, we signed a Free Trade Agreement”.
The Prime Minister also participated in the first ever Australia Week in China, designed to improve cross-border business ties between Australian and Chinese businesses.
“This trade mission has been a success – and a testimony to what we can do as a nation,” said Prime Minister Abbott.
