Former Western Australian auditor-general Colin Murphy has been appointed as a director to the APESB.

Mr Murphy will now commence in his new role from 1 May, having served the Parliament of Western Australia for more than 11 years as the Auditor-General for Western Australia.

A CPA fellow, Mr Murphy also served as WA state president for CPA Australia and as a national CPA board member.

He was a board member with the Auditing and Assurance Standards Board (AUASB) for nine years and worked as executive director in finance and briefly as under-treasurer in the Department of Treasury WA.

APESB chair Nancy Milne said Mr Murphy’s extensive experience in finance and government made him a welcome addition to the board.

“I am pleased to welcome Colin to the APESB board,” Ms Milne said.

“Colin’s experience with complex government departments and his various roles leading innovative processes will further strengthen and support the board in developing robust professional and ethical standards.”

Mr Murphy is set to take over from outgoing director John Cahill, whose tenure will conclude on 30 April.

“John has been a director for over six years and has bought a CFO’s perspective to the development of pronouncements,” Ms Milne said.

“On behalf of the board, I thank him for his service and valuable work contributions to the APESB and wish him all the best for the future.”
